Hello, all
A non-ag post about a Swedish film I watched recently
'The Last Sentence'
In black and white
Stark
Not just the visuals - the shots of the landscape, the house, architecture, water (in the form of a stream or river)
But also the sentiment behind, and sense of the telling of the story
An unvarnished depiction of the human condition
First film I've watched telling a Swedish side to events around 1930s Germany and the second world war
So much in there...
A story of opposites
Love v disdain, marriage v infidelity, courage v fear, vulnerability v vitality, truth v evasion, the personal v the political (though these two are not necessarily opposites)
The deception of oneself and of others
A rather grim review of the film
In which, reconciliation appears to be hard to come by
But, notwithstanding, an uncompromising portrayal of life: desires, will, hope, love from unexpected people, determination, strife, striving, fallibility
The sensed everyday fragility of things : 'I've written in the sand'
All isn't necessarily lost: the film also provides a sliver of relief and joy
The love of dogs!
